The organic waste streams such as municipal wastewater sludges and source separated bio-waste are excellent raw material for biogas production. European Union is demanding that all households must be under separate bio-waste collection by 2025. Biogas production is the best method for bio-waste treatment, as it both produces bioenergy as well as allows valuable nutrients to be recycled.
We are happy to help public and private waste and water management companies to fulfil their recycling and treatment obligations by designing and building modern bioplants that produce both fertilizers and biomethane based vehicle fuels. Upgrading biogas into biomethane and selling it as vehicle fuel is a great possibility to build the fossil free transportation infrastructure and circular economy locally – as well as create revenue for municipal waste management companies.
Sludges and biowaste can be treated in combination process – this often is the most efficient method for best gas productivity. However, modern biogas plants are nowadays typically 2-line plants where biowaste and sludge are treated in separate and parallel process lines. This allows the bio-waste line’s end products to be used as organic fertilizers. Our EPAD-process is suitable for processing both types of waste streams – sludges and bio-waste. In addition, we are able to design and build hybrid processes, where sludges are treated in EPAD-reactor and biowaste in dry digestion plug flow reactor.
Enhancing the performance of existing biogas plants and retrofitting the processes is one of our expert areas. We can help our customers in:
- process improvements; pretreatment, alteration to EPAD process
- increasing the capacity of an existing plant
- biogas upgrading systems and processes
- nutrient recovery systems
- biomethane filling stations
